transference

Definition:

Transference is the projection of unconscious feelings, patterns, and conflicts onto the therapist, often mirroring significant past relationships. It is a central dynamic in Jungian analysis that provides insight into unresolved emotional issues.

Example:

Recognising and working with transference helps clients uncover and process unconscious material. For example, a client experiencing anger toward the therapist might explore how this mirrors unresolved parental conflicts.
